Update

I can totally see progress now in the pictures. My ortho said how much better he can see the skeletal deformity now that I’ve had braces for a while.

I was at my ortho this week because one of my brackets broke, but he changed my wire on the bottom as well. And I didn’t gave to pay anything extra 😄.

I’ve also had some problems with my wisdom tooth extractions and it didn’t heal as it was supposed to. I went to my dentist she put something in the hole 4 days in a row and now it’s better. I still have a hole but it’s getting smaller every day.

  1. Awww, I also had dry socket in both of my extractions. 😦 It hurt so much at first, until the surgeon packed them. One of the packings fell out, so I had to go back the next day to get it repacked. Now the gaps are closed and everything is perfect. Hang in there! 🙂

      • i probably have the same case as yours. my biggest issue is my gummy smile and receded lower jaw with huge lip incompetence, but my ortho never mentioned anything about surgery. i only told him that i am considering genioplasty. anyways, good luck with your journey! and I will surely be following your jaw surgery journey as well! 🙂

    • I didnt have any idea about jaw surgery before, only about genioplasty. Though recently i have been trying to do some research about it, and now I am open to the option if given a chance to get the surgery. Probably I will tell my ortho, meeting him in a week, about my gummy smile and lip incompetence. I posted my question in realself with pics and xray https://www.realself.com/question/trondhjem-4mm-overjet-4mm-overbite-gummy-smile-weak-chin-deep-mentolabial-suclus

      • How extreme is your gummy smile. I see the resemblence in our cases. I have a larger overjet but a smaller overbite, but you could deffinetely benefit from jaw surgery. The surgeon said only upper jaw surgety wouldn’t be enough, and since I’m considering jaw surgery and said double would be best. I now have braces for 4 moths and 6-8 months to go until my surgery.

      • my gingival display is only 3mm, but my interlabial gap is way up to 7mm (i have a normal lip length of 22mm) when mouth is relaxed, but if i try to close my mouth, the strain on my chin is very very bad and it doesnt feel natural at all. One oral surgeon from another country said that I could benefit from two jaw surgery, not just genioplasty, since I have a small lower jaw. I have now my upper braces, no lower yet, hopefully on my next appointment with the otho. Im so afraid about camouflage orthodontics, since relapse is so great for us overbiters.

      • Finally talk about it with my ortho, and he said I have bimaxillary protusion, and he gave me options for me to think about, lip surgery and/or ASO was one of them. I got five weeks till i meet him again, probably that time I can finally decide.

  2. Yeah, I get you about the lip incompetence. I have a 9mm gummy smile and 8-9mm of interlabial gap (lip incompetence). But even woth that kind of numbers the surgeon said he can impact my upper jaw 4mm, 5mm at the most (plus a rotation? don’t know it how this works exactly). You really need to talk to your ortho and surgeon bucause if they impact your upper jaw it can cause your upper teeth won’t show all the way when you smile, and that can be ageing, especially to a woman 😉 they really need to considet that aspect. I would love to hear what they say 😉
